Church History

We began CMBC from a Bible study held at the home of Dan and Barbara Renberg. There were about a dozen people and the study was led by Pastor

Tim Heath who at that time was working at Alpine Boys Ranch.

Our first church meetings were begun in March of 1979 and were held in the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Pine St. in Leavenworth.

Oscar and Marilynn Pearson donated two acres of land one and one-half miles out Chumstick Highway (Hwy. 209) on which to build the church and on July 4th, 1982 we had a ground breaking ceremony, at which time Denver Middlebrook volunteered to be the construction supervisor and the Board gladly accepted his offer. We strongly felt we should not go into debt to build God's building.

Finally in August of 1983 we moved into our church. There were no carpets, pews, curtains, or cabinets. The church was dedicated on September 18, 1983 with Pastor Bill Heath giving the dedication address.

By August of 1986 the church was furnished and sided.

In the spring of 1988 Pastor Tim gave notification of his resignation, effective June 30th as the Lord had called them to a different ministry.

Pastor Ken & Julie Farmen answered the Lord's call in July of 1988 and by August moved to Leavenworth and began their ministry.

1984 saw the beginning of the Shepherd's Flock Preschool, under the direction of Anita Davenport and Diane Andrews. In 1990 we began an AWANA program for children in kindergarten through the 6th grade.

By 1991 our seams continued to burst. In an effort to eliminate seating problems and also to minister to a greater number of people, on November 3rd we began having two worship services with Sunday School between.

It was unanimously decided, in 1992, to enlarge our facilities. As when we originally built, we felt it was God's desire that we not go into debt for this, His project. Roger Rumann was hired, in 1995, as the Construction Supervisor and Jon English came on staff as Administrative Assistant to the pastor.

In January of 1999, Pastor Ken Farmen resigned to accept an associate pastor position at the Berean church in Spokane.

Pastor Nathan Whitham and family arrived on Easter Sunday, 2000. During his three years at CMBC, the new sanctuary was completed. Pastor Whitham resigned in 2003.

In November of 2003, John Romine became our fourth pastor. We are thankful for Pastor John's desire to serve God and this congregation, and for his deep love of the Lord.

On August 28th and 29th, 2004, our church celebrated its 25th anniversary with the theme, "To God Be the Glory." All of our former pastors were able to attend as well as Pastor Ken Parker, along with many families who had previously called this their church home.

Pastor Romine resigned in June of 2005 and on Sept 1st Pastor Tim and Judy Heath returned to Leavenworth to serve the church once again.

In August of 2010, Pastor Tim Heath resigned the church to enter into full-time missionary service and Todd James was called to become the fifth and current pastor. Pastor James is a graduate of Grace Bible College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and previously served as pastor of Grace Bible Church in Newaygo, Michigan.
